Cannabis weddings
Dosing math for cannabis at weddings
Buying cannabis for a wedding is a logistics problem, not a vibe. Too little and the guests who count on it run out by 9 PM; too much and you're driving home with several hundred dollars of edibles in the trunk. The math below is what actually works — guest-count × cannabis-user-percentage × per-person dose × format-preference distribution. Specific brand or strain choice is a separate question; this page is the upstream arithmetic that determines how much to buy. Adults 21+; everything assumes a 21+ guest list and licensed product.
Step 1: estimate cannabis-user percentage
Across the general adult-use population, current-cannabis-user numbers are around 18-25% depending on the source. Wedding crowds skew different in both directions. Couples-with-cannabis-aware-friend-groups: assume 35-50%. Older guest list, family-heavy: assume 10-15%. Mixed: assume 20-25%.
When in doubt, ask 5-10 close friends what they'd estimate. The number you get back is usually close to right.
Step 2: split format preference
Of cannabis users at a wedding, expect roughly: 40-50% prefer pre-rolls or flower (smoke), 30-40% prefer edibles (gummies, chocolate, beverages), 10-15% prefer THC drinks specifically, 5-10% prefer vape pens.
Edible-and-drink demand is higher at weddings than the general population baseline because they're discreet and they don't require leaving the venue's main area.
Step 3: estimate per-person dose
Edibles: most guests at a 5-hour wedding will eat 1-2 doses (a 5mg gummy, a 10mg chocolate). Heavy users 2-3. Beginners 1.
Pre-rolls: 1 pre-roll per 2-3 cannabis-using guests at the wedding (people share). Half-gram pre-rolls go faster than full-gram.
THC drinks: 1-2 cans per cannabis-drinking guest, depending on session length and whether you also have a full bar.
Worked example: 100-guest wedding, 25% cannabis-aware
100 guests × 25% = 25 cannabis users.
Edibles (35% of cannabis-users × 1.5 doses): ~13 doses of edibles.
Pre-rolls (45% × 1 per 2.5 people): ~5 pre-rolls.
THC drinks (15% × 1.5 cans): ~6 THC seltzers.
Vapes (5% × half a pen each): 1 vape cart shared.
Total spend at retail prices: roughly $200-400 depending on brand selection. Round up rather than down — leftover product travels home, run-out doesn't.
A note on edible safety at weddings
Always label clearly. Always separate cannabis-infused desserts from non-infused ones with a physical gap and signage. Always tell the catering team and the bartenders.
First-time-edible guests at a wedding is the wrong context for accidental over-consumption. Default to lower-dose options (5mg, sometimes 2.5mg microdose) when the guest mix isn't known.
