Day-of cannabis wedding checklist
The day-of execution of a cannabis-aware wedding is mostly about whether the right things were prepared in advance — and the day-of checks are short. This page is the practical morning-of checklist: which staff to brief, which conversations to confirm, which products to lay out where, and how to staff the cannabis area through the reception. Adults 21+; everything below assumes the planning work in the other Pillar 8 articles is done.
Morning of
Confirm pickup at the licensed dispensary. Most HV dispensaries don't deliver to event venues; you or a designated friend pick up. Bring two IDs.
Confirm with the venue's day-of coordinator that the cannabis-area location and signage plan are still as agreed. Sometimes weather forces a re-route.
Confirm with the catering team that the labeled edibles will be served on a clearly-separated surface from non-infused desserts.
Pre-ceremony staff brief
20-minute brief with the bartenders, catering team, and the wedding planner. Cover: what's in the THC drinks (mg per can), what's in the edibles (dose per piece), where consumption is permitted, where it's not, and what to do if a guest has had too much.
Have the same brief printed on a single page that lives at the bar.
Ceremony
Cannabis area is closed during the ceremony. Reopens at cocktail hour.
Cocktail hour through dinner
Cannabis area staffed (a friend, a hired budtender, or the planner) for the first 90 minutes of cocktail hour. After that, self-serve is usually fine if guests have been briefed.
Edibles available throughout dinner — they take 30-90 minutes to kick in, so guests planning to use them mostly start during dinner.
Reception
Cannabis area peak demand is between dinner and the cake-cutting moment.
Late reception: the area can stay open until last call but make sure water and food are still accessible. Cannabis-and-alcohol cross-impairment is the most common reason a guest needs to be cared for at the end of the night.
After the wedding
Anything not consumed travels home with the couple or a designated guest in sealed packaging. Cannabis transport rules still apply — sealed, in trunk, NY-only.
Disposal of empty packaging: standard recycling, no special handling needed.
