Late-night Thruway traffic stop in Plattekill leads to seizure of 352 grams of cocaine, arrest of Catskill man
State Police say a late-night traffic stop on Interstate 87 in Plattekill led to the seizure of more than three quarters of a pound of cocaine and the arrest of a Greene County man. Troopers with the Troop F Community Stabilization Unit stopped a northbound 2023 Honda at about 12:11 a.m. on April 15, after observing multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. The driver and sole occupant was identified as Sherod Wiggins, 47, of Catskill. Police said a K-9 named Kell was deployed during the stop and alerted to the odor of narcotics. Troopers reported that Wiggins became non-compliant during the vehicle search and tried to get back into the car and flee. After a brief struggle, troopers said, he was taken into custody without injury. A search of the vehicle allegedly turned up about 352 grams of cocaine in a clear plastic bag, though police said no contraband was found on Wiggins himself. Wiggins was processed at State Police Highland and charged with first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal possession with intent to sell, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, and multiple traffic violations. He was remanded to the Ulster County Jail pending centralized arraignment.
