I Love Your Layers with Shelley Thorstensen
I Love Your Layers – Shelley Thorstensen Dates: August 10 – 14, 2026 Studio: Intaglio Tuition: Sliding Scale, $450 – $1300 Lab fee: $100 Class limit: 6 Let’s get closer to the place where people say, “I love your layers,” and create seamless, surprising work together. In this workshop, we’ll focus on proofing—making beautiful versions of your image so you, the artist, can choose which ones to edition. Thorstensen says, “This is at the heart of how I work, and I’m excited to share both systematic tips I’ve learned over the years and intuitive approaches tailored to each student.” Bring a small plate (about 8 x 10″ to 9 x 12″) you’ve worked on, and feel free to make quick plates (collograph, relief, litho) to supplement it. The class will focus on layering and printing, giving you plenty of hands-on experience with the creative process. While participants won’t be learning new plate-making techniques, Thorstensen will be present to advise and support you in your plate-making endeavors, offering feedback and suggestions as you work. A materials list will be provided to help you prepare. For now, find or create a plate you want to use and start a Pinterest-style wish list or mood board of things you love—color, form, ideas, anything that inspires you. Bring it along, and we’ll jump off from there. As you will need to bring premade plates, previous experience with printmaking is required. There will be some periods of prolonged standing. This workshop is currently full. To be added to the waitlist, please email info@wsworkshop.org
