Kerhonkson moped rider injured in crash on Broadway in Kingston
A Kerhonkson man was taken to the hospital Friday night after a crash involving a moped and a car on Broadway near O’Neil Street, Kingston police said. Police said officers were called at about 7:37 p.m. April 10 after a vehicle turning left into a parking lot crossed the bike lane in front of a moped traveling southeast in that lane. The moped operator tried to stop but struck the rear of the car and fell, police said. The driver, a 31-year-old woman from Albany, remained at the scene. Patrol officers and detectives responded to investigate. Police said the 40-year-old moped operator was conscious and alert when officers arrived and was transported by the Kingston Fire Department to HealthAlliance Hospital for injuries. Police said five traffic tickets were issued to the moped operator: aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree, operating without insurance, unregistered motor vehicle, failure to use a designated lane, and an unapproved or no protective helmet. The crash was reported in the Broadway corridor where the city has made recent changes, including protected bike lanes and updated traffic patterns aimed at improving safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. Despite those changes, vehicles continue to cause accidents at a regular frequency. The post Kerhonkson moped rider injured in crash on Broadway in Kingston first appeared on Hudson Valley One .
