Historic mansion tour

Follow the Hudson River with this historic mansion tour. They rise one after another along the waterway, a thread of estates that trace the ambitions, aesthetics and legacies of New York’s most influential families. From the Gothic Revival grandeur of Lyndhurst Mansion to the sweeping, painterly landscapes of Olana State Historic Site, these historic homes chart a northward journey through time as much as place. Built for industrialists, artists, and visionaries, each site offers a distinct vantage point on the Hudson River’s cultural corridor. Every spring, they come to life, welcoming more and more visitors, both locals and tourists. Come along with us for a tour up the Hudson River, visiting each mansion along the way. 1) Lyndhurst Mansion Tarrytown, Westchester County The first stop on your trip, the tagline of this mansion is “Where the Hudson Valley Begins.” Overlooking the Hudson River in Tarrytown is one of America’s finest Gothic Revival mansions: Lyndhurst. Come take a tour, attend a special event, or just walk the sprawling grounds. Lyndhurst Mansion offers tours, special displays, including the season kickoff Flower House on April 18 and 19, craft shows, and daily grounds passes. This year, Lyndhurst Mansion is celebrating its 60th anniversary. 2) Boscobel House and Gardens Garrison, Putnam County Heading up the river a little further, you’ll find Boscobel. Built in the early years of the nation, Boscobel House and Gardens offers one of the Hudson Valley’s most iconic views — and a story like no other.
